Brewing Your Brand Voice: Recognizing Your Flavor

March 16, 20266 min read

Last week we talked about something that surprises a lot of business owners: your brand voice isn’t something you invent. It’s something that’s already brewing in the way you talk about your work every day.

But once you realize that voice exists, the next step becomes obvious.

You need to taste it.

Because just like coffee, every voice has its own flavor.

And the biggest mistake people make on social media is assuming they’re supposed to sound like everyone else. [Insert eye roll.]

☕ Not Every Cup Tastes the Same

Walk into any coffee shop and you’ll see the menu full of options.

Bold espresso.
Smooth latte.
Bright cold brew.
Rich dark roast.

None of them is wrong. Or boring. Or meh.

They’re just different flavors.

And a latte in one shop doesn't taste the same as in another shop. How fun would that be?

Your brand voice works the same way.

Some business owners naturally sound like a teacher. They break things down step by step so people finally understand something that once felt complicated.

Others show up like a coach, encouraging people to take action and reminding them they’re capable of more than they think.

Some sound like a guide, calmly helping people through a confusing process.

And some have the flavor of a storyteller, sharing experiences that make people laugh, nod, and think, “That’s exactly what happened to me.”

All of those voices work.

But they only work when they’re authentic to the person using them.

☕ The Problem With Copying Someone Else’s Flavor

A lot of business owners start posting online and immediately begin comparing themselves to others.

They see someone with a big following and think:

“Maybe I should sound like that.”

But that’s like ordering the exact same drink as the person in front of you without knowing whether you actually like it.

When you try to copy someone else’s voice, your content often starts to feel stiff or unnatural.

And your audience can sense it.

People connect with content that feels like a real conversation not a performance.

☕ Your Flavor Is Already There

You keep denying it, thinking there's no way it could be good enough. However, it REALLY is.

Here's how to sip and savor it:

  • Think about how you talk when someone asks you a question about your work.

  • Do you walk them through the steps?

  • Do you give them a little push of encouragement?

  • Do you tell a quick story to explain your point?

  • Do you offer a calm explanation that makes the situation feel less overwhelming?

  • Those instincts are your flavor.

They’re the tone and rhythm your voice naturally takes when you’re helping someone.

And when you bring that same tone into your content, something interesting happens.

Posting online suddenly becomes easier.

Because you’re no longer trying to sound like anyone but you.

You’re simply brewing your own voice.

☕ Why Flavor Matters

Social media is busy. I know mine now sounds the same from post to post, reel to reel. So, your only hope of standing out is to lean into your own, personal, real, authentic brand voice.

Thousands of businesses can offer similar products or services. But the way you communicate about what you do is unique.

Your flavor helps people recognize you. It’s what makes someone read your post and think:

“I like how this person explains things.”

Or:

“This person gets it.”

Or even:

“This sounds exactly like the conversation I needed to hear today.”

That’s when your voice starts doing its real job — building trust and curiosity.

☕ A Small Hint for This Week

If you want to start noticing your flavor, pay attention to your conversations this week.

Notice:

• how you naturally explain things
• what tone you use when someone asks for help
• the way you encourage or guide someone through a problem

Those moments are clues.

They’re showing you the flavor that’s already brewing in your voice.

And once you recognize that flavor, creating content becomes much less about trying to be clever…

…and much more about simply sharing what you already know.

How to turn your voice and flavor into content that people actually want to read.
