OMG MY FACE! OMG MY VOICE! Brewing Camera Confidence
Now the Fun Starts: Brewing Video Without Freaking Out
Alright.
Now we get to the part everyone both dreads and secretly wants to master.
Video.
This is where you go from:
“OMG my face. Stop recording.”
to
“Wait… I just made that. And I posted it.”
That shift? That’s power.
This is where:
☕ lighting becomes your friend
☕ your angles finally make sense
☕ editing feels doable instead of dramatic or weird
☕ posting becomes natural instead of terrifying
And yes — we’re talking about confidence too. Because confidence isn’t optional. It’s brewed.
EVERYONE already knows what you look like and sound like -
and they’re OK with it.
(It’s just you who isn’t.)
☕ First: Angles, Not Ego
Before you worry about what to say, we set you up to win. Hold your camera in the normal, vertical position.
Hold your phone slightly above eye level so your eyes look awake and bright.
Your face goes in the center square so that the title can go above and captions below.
No full body shot from above.
Turn your face slightly — don’t square up like a mugshot. And keep turning as you video yourself to find your angles. (Most people like the side their part is on. Not me.)
Watch the footage back and see what angles you prefer.
You can do this with photos, too.
You’re not trying to be perfect.
You’re trying to be clear.
Clear beats perfect every time.
☕ Lighting: Your Secret Espresso Shot
Face a window. Period. Inside your car is amazing!
Natural light does 80% of the work for you.
If you use a ring light, place it slightly above eye level and soften it (that means make it the right brightness so you're not washed out and niot greyed out).
We are not interrogating you. We are illuminating you.
Good lighting reduces insecurity instantly because you look like yourself — just brighter.
And you know I'll point you to your Snapchat camera. But I've recently found that the Edits camera is quite good as well.
☕ Then We Stir It Up In Edits
We use Edits because it keeps things simple. It free. You just need an Instagram account.
Beginner tips:
Trim the awkward beginning where you’re reaching for the phone.
Trim the ending where you’re staring at the screen.
Cut long pauses.
Add captions. (Most people watch without sound.)
Add a title.
Keep transitions simple. No circus tricks needed.
You are not producing a Netflix special.
You are communicating clearly.
That’s it.
☕ The Formula That Makes It All Click
When you freeze on camera, it’s usually because you don’t know what comes next.
So we remove that problem.
Every video follows this formula:
Hook
Introduce Yourself (with authority)
Answer the Hook
Example:
Hook: “Do you hate the idea of putting your face on video for your biz?”
Authority: “I’m René with Resolute Social, and I help business owners show up like rockstars in their space.”
Answer: When you see and hear yourself on video, there's a disconnect between how you see your self in your mind and what shows up on video....
Structure = confidence.
Clarity = calm.
☕ Here’s the Bold Move
For your very first video, tell people
I may be nervous, but I’m more committed than afraid.
I work with [niche] who are tired of [common frustration] and ready for [desired outcome].
Tell me how I did in the comments!
“I’m new to making video — tell me how I did below.”
That does two things:
It builds connection.
It builds engagement.
You don’t have to pretend you’re polished. And please, never be more polished than authentic.
You just have to be present, showing up as yourself.
Confidence isn’t something you wait for.
Confidence is brewed the moment you hit post.
